Fall is in full swing! The weather is becoming cooler, the leaves are vibrant colors of red, yellow, and orange. At Tobin Jewelers, we have a variety of unique gemstones to fit any style and personality. We do carry gemstones that do embrace the colors of fall. One of our favorites is Citrine which happens to be the birthstone for November.
Color is Important
The name Citrine comes from an old French word “citrin” which means lemon. This gemstone can vary in its color. It can be from a very pale yellow to a deeper, almost brownish-orange color. Citrine gets its color from iron impurities within the quartz at the time of formation. You can spot a fake Citrine based on the intensity of its color, fake Citrine, or heated amethysts tend to have a burnt orange color with the raw points being brown.
Location, Location, Location
Citrine isn’t from just one place, it is found all over the world. Although, most Citrine is mined in Spain and Brazil. More specifically, the largest supplier of natural Citrine is the Rio Grande do Sol state in Brazil. But the gemstone isn’t just found in those locations, smaller amounts can be found in Russia, Colorado, Madagascar, and Scotland. These stones can sometimes be found on riversides and between the gravel.
So They Say
With the gemstone being in the yellow color family, it’s associated with cheerfulness and lightheartedness. It’s been believed to raise one’s mood and encourage laughter along with overall happiness. While wearing a Citrine, one could be able to stabilize emotions while trying to avoid frustration and anger. Citrine is also believed to promote creativity and help personal clarity.
