March is here! That means we are one month away from “April Showers Bring May Flowers.” Here at Tobin, we know how long and gloomy the winter months can be here in Wisconsin but we always turn to gemstones to add a little color to our lives and jewelry boxes! What is special about March is, it has two different birthstones – Aquamarine and Bloodstone.
Do you think blue when you hear aquamarine? Well, you should! Aquamarine gets its coloring from trace amounts of ferrous iron and its coloring can range from blueish green to a deep blue. Although, its color tends to be more intense in larger stones. The gemstone can be found all over the world from Madagascar to Pakistan to the U.S. According to legend, Aquamarine would create a calm sea for those during travel but the modern-day meaning behind the Aquamarine is happiness, hope, and everlasting youth.
Bloodstone is a quartz stone, and it’s most known for its dark-green color with flecks of red spots. Bloodstone got its name due to having red stops and which can resemble drops of blood, and that is due to the presence of iron oxide in the stone. This gemstone can be found in the U.S., Germany, and Australia. During ancient times, the stone has been believed to help with blood disorders and help regulate blood flow. The modern time meaning is a little different, it represents a courageous spirit and protection.
Although Aquamarine and Bloodstone are drastically different in appearance and meaning, that just gives you the option to choose what stone fits your style. Are you more of a light blue/green person, who likes something a little lighter and airy? Or is a darker, moody stone person with hints of red throughout the stone? Either way, March gives us great options when it comes to choosing between its birthstones.
