We have the classics – yellow gold and white gold. Have you ever considered rose gold when it comes to your next jewelry purchase? Over the years and still, today, rose gold is a popular color choice for many. The non-traditional look of rose gold is what sets it apart from the classic finishes. Its popularity comes from it being between yellow and white gold – you get the best of both worlds.
What is Rose Gold?
Rose gold or sometimes referred to as pink gold, isn’t a natural color like yellow gold is. Rose gold does in fact contain yellow gold but also contains copper, and that is where the “rose” color comes from. Since the copper is added to the yellow gold, the copper helps to create a rosier, brighter pink color which has become popular amongst many things such as jewelry and accessories. With the option of having your jewelry 14k gold made into rose gold (mixing yellow old and copper as mentioned before), it’s good to understand that 14k gold makes the structure of your jewelry strong and less likely to become damaged.
Change Color Over Time
Have no fear! This is something that does sound alarming at first but it’s 100% normal for rose gold to change its color over time. It may become a little darker and even slightly redder. It’s important to understand the change is very gradual and moderate, this is a change one will not notice overnight. The change in the coloring isn’t due to tarnishing, it’s due to the copper slowly oxidizing and creating patina – creating more of a vintage appearance. Again – this happens with time and is very minimal!
Easy to Style
Although there aren’t rules when it comes to how to style your jewelry with rose gold, it gives you the flexibility to pair it with anything that is already in your collection. With rose gold, having a light/softer look to it, it makes goes well with yellow, and white gold jewelry, making your look timeless and classic. A great way to look at it is the “tri-color” look which pairs different metal jewelry pieces together. Since rose gold does have copper in it, it makes a great complement to your copper jewelry or accessories.
